H. E. "Sonny" Cauthen, Jr., is a founding partner of Cauthen Forbes & Williams.  As former president and CEO of Cauthen & Associates federal government relations practice, he has maintained a presence in Washington for the past 15 years.  Mr. Cauthen’s expertise in electricity industry regulation and his relationships with industry leaders are the foundation for the energy policy lobby of the new firm. 

A former member of the Alabama State Democratic Executive Committee and a veteran of several state and national campaigns, he served both the Clinton/Gore ’96 re-election campaign and the 2000 Gore/Lieberman campaign as Vice Chairman for Business Outreach.  He is currently a Trustee of the Democratic National Committee and carries membership on the National Finance Board and the Democratic Business Council. 

Mr. Cauthen has maintained his role as president and C.E.O. of Cauthen and Associates, a state governmental relations firm with offices in Montgomery, Alabama.  He also is involved in several agricultural operations; he functions as president of a diversified, family-owned cattle ranch and as an officer in a family-owned pulpwood and timber business.  Cauthen also holds an interest in the Teague Crossing Development Company, with properties adjacent to the new Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama plant near Montgomery. 

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on September 25, 1949, he is married to the former Florence Minor Mangum, also a native of Montgomery.  She is an attorney and former U. S. Marshal for the Middle District of Alabama.  They have two children: a daughter, Belle Churchwell Cauthen; and a son, Eugene Preston Mangum Cauthen.
